Alison studied English Literature and Language at Edinburgh University and graduated MA (Hons).  She then completed a post-graduate certificate in teaching at Jordanhill College in Glasgow, now part of the University of Strathclyde.  In 2011, she added the Cert TESOL to her teaching qualifications and enjoys one-to-one work each summer with professionals from other countries seeking to improve their confidence and competence in English.  She has combined part and full-time teaching in a variety of settings - primary and secondary schools, further education colleges - with bringing up a family of four children.

She has spent the last five years developing professional listening skills and has recently completed the post-graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Strathclyde University.  She is a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and continues to train and develop her skills, working towards accredited status with the BACP.  She works as a volunteer counsellor at the PF Counselling Service in Edinburgh and is in the process of establishing her own private practice.

She likes going to the cinema and the theatre, and she enjoys getting stuck into a really good book. She also loves being outdoors, spending as much time as she can hill-walking.
